Abstract:

Our research is aimed at identifying the advantages of learning foreign languages by means of interactive applications such as the Instagram, the Telegram, the Whatsapp and etc. In this article we distinguish the groups of people who are still excluded from regular and traditional forms of studying languages and as a result they are trying hard to find alternative ways of keeping up with the progressive society. Apart from the technical benefits of the applications, we focus on the psychological aspects of this topic. The research concerns people with special needs, social anxiety disorder, victims of war and political conflicts, who have been deprived of access to education, teenagers who are experiencing bullying from peers at school and senior citizens, having missed this opportunity earlier in life. Moreover, the main strengths of the current applications - spatial intelligence, visualization, inclusiveness, self-sustainment, simplicity and the element of permanent presence in the learning process, the motivation of the learners, the linguistic means used for encouraging individuals to be more active and keen while learning foreign languages, - permit all the categories of people mentioned above to obtain knowledge in any life circumstances. Finally, we point out the problems of time-management and time refocusing in the learning process. Despite the fact that there are many obvious advantages of contemporary digital applications, we identify the obstacles, which can influence the quality of the learning process. Particularly, we highlight the problem of assessment and monitoring of the material and impugn the professionalism of the supervisors.
