Abstract:

Radio drama is firmly established in its nearly century-old tradition. The determinants of the genre (spoken word, acoustic mimicry, music, sign of silence, sound grounds) define the radio play as a genre. Nevertheless, the radio theater of the imagination does not remain passive in the face of the transformations of new media. Audible art, although drawing on its specific genre determinants, changes in the face of interactive media (the Internet, virtual assistants). The authors give up the classic narrative of an audio story in the traditional form, bringing to life ergodic texts of sound culture. Observation of the changes in sound art in the era of interactive media (hypertextual forms of reception, podcasting) allows for the hypothesis that a way of the development of radio art is being shaped, which goes beyond its primal medium. The creators use both interactive ways of realizing the radio play form and ways of distributing the audio story through podcasting. The aim of the research is to indicate how radio play creators use the tools available thanks to the development of new media, to identify new media constituting the space for the creation and distribution of ergodic radio dramas, audioseries and radio drama podcasts. In formulating research conclusions, a qualitative method will be used - appropriate to the methodology of media studies research - analysis of new media content (smart speakers, podcasting, streaming services) in terms of the existence of a radio play.
