Abstract:

The year 2020 left a unique fingerprint in societies. Particularly, in education, there was acomplete revolution and a shift of paradigms. Globally, schools closed the gates and implemented online education and became a must in most countries. According to the World Economic Forum, worldwide, in 2020, there were more than 1.2 billion children in 186 countries affected by school closures due to the pandemic. However, the barriers and adaptation in education become evident in several countries including Mexico. Almendingen K, Morseth MS, Gjølstad E, Brevik A, Tørris C (2021) found valuable data and concluded that a sudden shift to digital teaching was challenging for students, but it appears that they adapted quickly to the new situation. The study was done as a way to analyze the impact and perception that students had toward using Braille in the English classroom. Therefore, the present study is action research using two Google Doc Forms as research instruments. Specifically, due to the pandemic of Covid-19, an action plan was implemented in a virtual manner in the period of November-December (2020) February, and March (2021). The findings for this study showed an acceptance towards the use of Braille in the English classroom. Finally, the present study created the First virtual Braille decoding contest in English that may be a cornerstone to take consciousness and let non-blind students take part in an academic event to learn Braille using the English language.
