Abstract:

This paper describes the pedagogical experience of teaching English with and without hand puppets. In respect thereof, Education students of Universidad Nacional de Piura devised English classes for children using traditional methodology and classes using puppets. On the other hand, the puppets were designed considering Peruvian animals. In this qualitative research 27 Education students of the aforementioned university, completed a survey designed for knowing their perceptions about the use of hand puppets in English class. In conjunction with this survey, a semi-structured interview with a random sample supplemented the written information. Among highlights of the results, it found a favorable opinion to use of hand puppets for teaching English, being the achieved self-confidence for speaking in front of the rest one of the main reasons for their responses.
