Abstract:

Since the 1980’s the Palestinian film has echoed various aspects of the Palestinian experience in Israel including the complex, fragmented identity of the country’s Arab-Palestinian citizens.. Responding to the discrimination and marginalization of Arab-Palestinian society in Israel, in recent years, the younger generation has begun developing a resistance strategy which has produced an emerging cultural scene that challenges previous generations’attempts to integrate,assimilate and even adopt Israeli Identity. Palestinian films made in recent years reflect this changing consciousness. They reverberate the sense of limbo experienced by the younger Palestinian generation in Israel, which manifests in personal and inter-generational conflicts and defiance towards traditional sources of authority in politics, religion and inside the family. These films reflect what unfolds when the conceptual structure of integration and assimilation disintegrates and demonstrate how traditional hegemonic structures are undermined as part of the younger generation’s internal and external dialogues in the political, social, and particularly cultural arenas. This paper looks at these transformative processes with a focus on four Palestinian films made in Israel in recent years :“Personal Affairs”( Maha Haj, 2016) , “Living in Between” (Maysaloun Hamoud ,2017)" Wajib”, (Anne marie Jacir,2017) and "Holy Air" (Shady Srur,2018)
