Abstract:

The aim of this presentation is to analyze a case- study in the Technical School of Larnaca, Cyprus. This school is in a neighborhood where drag dealing flourish along with crime, upheavals and social disorder. Many students are violent and aggressive. Suspension as a disciplinary measure doesn't work and the results are poor. This presentation will show the elevation/transformation of students' self-confidence during the rehearsals for the staging of the school's play. I will emphasize on the multiple psychological problems and traumatic experiences, their difficulties to accept school's regulations and coexistence with the other members of the school's community and finally their development during and after the staging of certain two plays. Psychological dramas such as Tennessee Williams's "This property is condemned" and Martin Mc Donna's "The Pillowman" helped them to acknowledge their trauma and cure themselves by accepting the domestic and social cruelty/injustice and go forth.
