Abstract:

The present work aims to understand the perception that researchers have, in educational matters, and identify the strategies they have been applying when using social networks for communication, diffusion and dissemination of the scientific results generated for these. A study that focuses its attention on the level of researchers linked to higher education institutions in Spain, based on the results generated in the Communication and scientific dissemination project, in educational matters in Spain, through social networks (FCT-20 -15761), executed with the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology - Ministry of Science and Innovation. This project analyzed 488 respondents, 20 interviewees, and the presence of the 6,253 researchers belonging to higher education institutions in Spain linked to the 9,766 articles included among the 12,629 academic works indexed in WoS and Scopus associated with the keyword Education, with accredited accounts to these on Twitter, through the application in R and the Twitter's API 2.0. The results show us a context of a low academic presence on Twitter (less than 4% of academic identified has Twitter). A context that aligns with the low perception they have around the communication and scientific dissemination through social networks, characterized by self-taught learning, with shortcomings when establishing strategies aimed at the ends before indicated. The scenario observed in the Spanish case requires promoting individual (academic) and institutional communication policies and strategies that favour the change of perception about digital contexts to transfer knowledge from the academy to professional scenarios associated with their knowledge.
