Abstract:
The English Language is a mandatory discipline at primary schools all over Brazilian territory. Still, not only educational material and resources but also learning methodologies face the need for updating due to its lack of relationship between its content, students' interests and the community they belong to. The lack of contextualization, the excessive exposure to grammatical rules and outdated educational resources don't prepare for the labor market as well as social interactions but demotivate students who learn meaningless content to their lives. Therefore, the SESC (Social Service of Commerce) organization pedagogic team saw the need for developing educational materials that relates to the teaching practices, keeps the student at the center of the learning process, encourages the use of foreign language in a spontaneous way while valuing aspects of our own culture and of other cultures. For this matter, we were inspired by works and knowledge from authors like Paulo Freire, Acácia Kuenzer, Milton Santos and Claire Kramsch. At the end of this study we pointed out how foreign language learning and culture appropriation are intertwined.
